Doha,  The “Aspire Qatar Junior & Cadet Open” – jointly organised by the Qatar Table Tennis Association (QTTA) and Aspire Academy – which took place at Aspire Dome from February 17 and 21, ended with two gold medals for Aspire Academy student-athlete Mohammed Abdulwahhab: He won the team and doubles competition in the junior category of the tournament.

Along with his teammate, Slovenian Darko Jorgic, Mohammed defeated teams from Thailand in finals of the team and doubles competition. His exciting playing style has proved a real hit with the crowds at the Aspire Dome. Commenting on the results, he said: “Playing at home in front of your home crowd is a great feeling. Of course, I’m delighted with winning the two titles with Darko. But I expected I could achieve better results in the singles competition,” said Abdulwahhab, who lost in the quarter-finals against a player from Thailand.

“The tournament was very competitive with many talented players. The boys played very well,” commented Aspire Academy’s table tennis head coach Zlatko Novakovic on the results. He also congratulated Nawaf Al-Malki and Abdulaziz Al-Abdulla on winning bronze in the cadet’s team competition, as well as Abdulaziz Al-Abdulla who reached the quarter-final in the cadet’s singles competition.
