The start of the new season of Qatar Superbike Championship kicked off today under the floodlights of the Losail International Circuit with the participation of a total of 48 riders. For this year, there will be the two categories separated with a total of 22 riders taking part in the Superbike and 26 riders in the Supersport category.
The German rider Nina Prinz, is really looking forward to the start of the season after the summer break and she made the third best lap time in the Free practice 1. ‘ It is good to be here again after the summer. The bike works well, the team and the mechanics are great and good to see them again. The free practice was good and it is exciting to be back in the race mode’ Nina Prinz told after the practice.
In the Supersport category, the fastest rider was the Saudi Arabian Abdulaziz Bin Ladin with a Kawazaki ZX6R, who is excited to the start of this championship with the new category ‘ It is nice to have a good start of the season and we look forward the start of the championship and the new category, Supersport. It is good to have the two categories separate as more riders are taking part in this new category, with more interest, that for sure will make a very competitive championship’ said the supersport rider.
The young Qatari rider , Abdullah Naif Al Qubaisi is very happy with his start in this championship and feels good. ‘ I feel happy for my start and the track is good. I hope to improve my rhythm in the qualifying session. I want to thank to QMMF for their support and this opportunity and hope to get good results very soon’ Al Qubaisi said after the free practice.
In the Supersport category, there are some riders that are included in the Veterans category where the British rider Martin Bexon was the fastest rider in this category.
As in previous season, Qatar Motor and Motorcycle Federation is promoting women in motorsport and in this season, a part from Nina Prinz in Superbike category, the American rider Shelina Moreda, the Serbian rider Manca Katrasnik and Victoria Kis from Hungary are taking part in the championship in the Supersport category. ‘ I am very honored to race again here in Qatar, it is amazing racing here. We have some of the most talent riders in the world are here, so it is great racing next to them and you learn a lot. I am really excited for the start of the season and be again in Qatar’ Shelina said just at the start of the season.
